Montana Energy Corps Members Help Those in Need

The National Center for Appropriate Technology’s (NCAT) Montana Energy Corps AmeriCorps program held three weatherization fairs in North central Montana to reach those in need of assistance with high home energy costs this winter as part of Governor Schweitzer’s Warm Hearts Warm Homes initiative. AmeriCorps members distributed weatherization kits to individuals at the events and provided assistance installing materials to those in need. Weatherization events were held on the Fort Belknap reservation in Hays, Montana and on the Blackfeet reservation in Browning, Montana December 15th through the 17th.

Energy Corps members provided hands on weatherization assistance to several area households on Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th. All of the Montana Energy Corps was present for the activities on Blackfeet tribal lands and with the help of community volunteers including Blackfeet housing staff, the Energy Corps reached over 100 residences in the Browning area over the two day span with distribution and installation of weatherization materials. These weatherization efforts are part of Governor Schweitzer’s Warm Hearts Warm Homes initiative, encouraging Montanans to help their neighbors stay warm this winter and were planned with help from Energy Corps members Steven Eagle Feathers and Jay Ball and staff from Opportunity Link in Havre, Montana. This effort serves as just one example of the many projects that have been completed in the area by Energy Corps and Opportunity Link.
